Integral to OAI’s core mission to build Ohio’s aerospace economy is the ability to secure a fair share of available funding to support research and technology development in our state. |
| That funding comes primarily from four sources: |
|
OAI offers broad experience with the intricacies of funding acquisition, whether from federal agency grants and co-operative agreements, from the Congress, state agencies, more traditional industry programs or through venture capital.
Federal Agency Funding:
OAI has a long history of working with major federal agencies to fund research and technology programs. We have experience in managing projects for AFOSR, AFRL, DARPA, and Department of the Army, DOE, NASA, NIH, NIST-ATP, NNSA, NSF, ONR, and USGS.
Examples of our current programs include:
- Advanced Film Capacitor Consortium (NIST - ATP)
- GATE (NASA)
OAI is well acquainted with the federal agencies that fund aerospace and defense and can save you time in communication and gathering intelligence about current funding interests and types of teams that will be required to competitively deliver research and technology programs.

Congressional Funding:
In partnership with our members, OAI is actively developing aerospace research and technology projects which address pressing national concerns, and for which federal funding is anticipated or available.
As a mission-driven, nonprofit organization, OAI is uniquely suited to channel federal funding efficiently, matching the research capabilities and resources of our members with the technological challenges facing Ohio and the nation. Our collaborations with commercial partners can help move technology and research results to the commercial stage at lower cost, and with shorter development cycles.
More importantly, OAI is taking responsibility not simply for research, but for results -- results which answer national priorities, build economic benefit and develop real products and real jobs in Ohio’s aerospace sector.

Industry Funding:
OAI has leveraged more than $20M in industry cost share contributions for our various collaborative R&D projects.
OAI has experience in developing pre-competitive research programs that are industry funded. The benefits to industry are OAI’s efficient program management skills and the ability to obtain funding leverage to make your R&D funds go further.

State Agency Funding:
OAI has had from it’s inception a close working relationship with the State of Ohio to develop research and technology, education and training, and networking and information exchange programs that foster growth of Ohio’s aerospace economy. We have experience working with the Department of Development, as well as the Board of Regents.
