The Glenn Alliance for Technology Exchange (GATE) is a collaborative program of the NASA Glenn Research Center, the Ohio Aerospace Institute, and Battelle. GATE provides assistance to Ohio companies by matching their technology needs with potential NASA Glenn solutions to those needs, and establishing collaborative arrangements between the companies and NASA Glenn researchers. Using a multi-pronged approach, GATE works to broaden Glenn's impact and role in technology development in Ohio through the use of Glenn technology and problem solving expertise.

The GATE Research & Technology Innovation Platform effort, which has received strong interest from industry, was designed to select and further develop technologies of mutual interest to Glenn and Ohio companies. Once an R&D Platform is chosen, a public/private consortium is formed and 2-3 demonstration projects are identified that can achieve impact within 12-18 months.

The Ohio Cluster Focused Technology Commercialization Program is designed to take advantage of core strong Glenn technologies in polymer material development and instruments, controls and electronics (ICE), to address technological barriers identified by Ohio polymer and ICE industry leaders.

The GATE's Partnership Award Program was established to foster and expand technology transfer between GRC and smaller enterprises in Ohio. Each company receives a cash award of $50,000. Another $50,000 is being made available for each company to pay for NASA Glenn development assistance.

To date, the Glenn Alliance for Technology Exchange has assessed markets, established lines of communication with technology companies throughout the State of Ohio, and offered technical and financial opportunities to numerous Ohio firms. Many of these companies were previously unaware of the technologies and expertise available at NASA Glenn. Glenn is also gaining a number of new partners through GATE's outreach activities. GATE is well on its way towards fulfilling its objective of building new relationships between Glenn and Ohio companies and producing significant benefits for both. Ohio's position as a leader in research and technology has been strengthened by GATE and we look forward to an even greater impact in the future.
