Internship opportunities for students in science, engineering, math, business, and technical areas, are offered under the auspices of Lewis’ Educational and Research Collaborative Internship Program (LERCIP), a partnership of the Glenn Educational Programs Office and the Ohio Aerospace Institute (OAI). Each year, NASA Glenn Research Center and OAI receive more than 500 applications from interested students. The program has provided more than 2,700 internships since its inception in 1991. Students chosen for the program have the opportunity to be selected for co-op positions at NASA GRC, as well as opportunities to co-author publications and various papers.
| Applicants must be U.S. CITIZENS who are full-time students pursuing a baccalaureate or higher degree in a field of science, engineering, math, technology, or business administration at an accredited college or university throughout the United States or Puerto Rico. College-bound graduating high school seniors or 2-year college students with demonstrable plans to pursue baccalaureate degrees are also eligible. Students must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. The program provides students with: |
- Introductory professional experience to complement their academic programs and research interest.
- Opportunities to develop their skills in research and development, technical, and administrative projects under the guidance of a NASA staff member.
- Experience in a research and development environment to expand the student’s understanding of potential career choices that are available at NASA. Activities include oral presentations.

| OAI is responsible for evaluating and processing all applications. Upon processing, they are sent to NASA GRC for mentors to review and select potential interns. Once students are identified, OAI sends offer letters. OAI is also responsible for all program activities and payroll distributions. |
