The 2006/2007 Ohio Aerospace Internship Program (7/1/06 - 6/30/07) is closed until 2008. The new location for registration is located at http://www.ohio3fip.com and will be available for registration once the program has re-opened. You must complete the attached student eligibility form once you have registered.

Established in 1989, the Ohio Aerospace Institute is a private nonprofit consortium of education, industry, and government partners supporting collaborative efforts to build Ohio’s aerospace economy through research and technology partnerships, education, training, and networking among Ohio’s federal laboratories, universities, and industry. To date, OAI has managed more than $150 million in collaborative endeavors, with a focus on converting complex scientific challenges into solutions for industry.

OAI created the Ohio Aerospace Internship Program in response to the Third Frontier Internship Program Opportunity in 2004. The Program’s focus is on Ohio. Therefore, participating students will be Ohio residents attending Ohio and out of state academic institutions. Participating students will meet the required qualifications of the Third Frontier Internship Program and will be placed in Ohio-located internship opportunities. Companies providing internship opportunities will be businesses commercializing new knowledge within the State of Ohio.

Internship Positions
The Ohio Aerospace Internship Program is an educational program that will place highly qualified Ohio residents with companies operating in Ohio’s knowledge-based economy. These internship opportunities will provide students with experience in the following areas, but will not be limited to, bioscience, information technology, advanced materials, power and propulsion, instruments, controls and electronics, and advanced manufacturing.

The participating companies for 2006 - 2007 were as follows:

Application and Selection Process
Student applicants will be directed to apply by completing an online application. Student profiles captured from the online application process will populate OAI’s database of applicants, a database searchable by school, geographic area, demographic information, year in school, GPA, major field, and other relevant educational qualification data. Potentially sensitive information, such as Social Security numbers, will NOT be disclosed to database viewers. Students will be able to access only their own data and will not have access to that of other students. Students will be afforded access to a database of internship opportunities entered by participating companies. Campus student placement offices will be asked to prequalify students prior to filling out the application online, so that only eligible students meeting the above criteria will apply. THERE IS NO APPLICATION DEADLINE. INTERNSHIP POSITIONS WILL BE POSTED ACCORDING TO THE DEMANDS OF THE COMPANIES AND THEIR CLOSING DATES.

Aerospace companies committed to providing internship opportunities will be asked to supply specific points of contact within their human resources offices and technical staff who will be responsible for the evaluation and selection of student intern candidates. These company representatives will be issued user IDs and passwords to access the database of student profiles and, by applying search-and-sort criteria, may assemble a short list of student candidates to consider for selection as the applications are submitted. From the database, company representatives will then be able to download student applications. From this pool of applicants, companies will select candidates for interview or hire and notify the candidate and OAI. Companies will arrange interviews with candidates directly. Companies will notify OAI and the student of their decisions to select specific candidates, and provide a copy of their internship offer to OAI. Students will notify both the company and OAI of their acceptance of the internship, and OAI will deactivate the student record in the portion of the database that is accessible to companies still searching for candidates.

Due to the large number of applications expected, only selected students will be notified.
