The Ohio Space Grant Consortium (OSGC) is part of the National Space Grant College and Fellowship Program funded through NASA Headquarters. The OSGC is one of 52 Consortia, one in each state, Washington, D. C., and Puerto Rico.
The Space Grant's primary emphases in Ohio are student scholarships and fellowships on the university level; research infrastructure, and higher education activities related to aerospace for university faculty; student programs with an aerospace-science-math component for K-12 teachers; and, public outreach programs. Relationships among NASA Glenn Research Center (GRC) and Air Force Research Laboratories (AFRL) personnel with university faculty, students, and K-12 teachers are strongly encouraged. The Ohio Aerospace Institute (OAI) was selected in 1989 as the host institution, along with 12 member Ohio universities, to form the Ohio Space Grant Consortium. Currently, the OSGC is composed of 17 universities, 6 community colleges, the GRC, and the AFRL. Visit the OSGC website at http://www.osgc.org Director Gary L. Slater coordinates development and implementation of the OSGC objectives, which are as follows:

The Ohio Aerospace Internship Program, sponsored by Ohio’s Third Frontier Internship Program, places highly qualified Ohio students from Ohio colleges and universities with companies operating in Ohio’s aerospace economy. These internship opportunities provide students with experience in areas including, but not limited to, bioscience, information technology, advanced materials, power and propulsion, instruments, controls and electronics, and advanced manufacturing.
The Ohio Aerospace Internship/Third Frontier Internship Program focuses exclusively on placing Ohio students with Ohio companies. This internship is offered throughout the year. Applicants must be Ohio residents or a student at an Ohio higher learning institute in good academic standing (2.5 GPA or above) enrolled in an approved math, science, or engineering curriculum in areas such as bioscience, information technology, advanced materials, power and propulsion, instruments, controls and electronics and advanced manufacturing, and who are either:
OAI is responsible for helping Ohio companies locate qualified interns for their positions. OAI is also responsible for making sure these participating companies receive reimbursement from the Ohio Department of Development. For more information, contact Mary Roberts, Program Manager, at MaryRoberts@oai.org. To register, visit www.thirdfrontierintern.ohio.gov. Ohio Aerospace Internship Program
The 2008/2009 Ohio Aerospace Internship Program (11/1/08 - 6/30/09) is now available. The new location for registration is located at http://www.thirdfrontierintern.ohio.gov and will be available for registration once the program has re-opened.
The average hourly wage will range from $8 to $16. Interns will be paid directly by the companies. The normal statutory tax withholdings will be withheld and are based on the tax status filed by each individual. The State of Ohio will provide up to $3,000 in matched funding for each internship. Companies offering internships must provide a one-to-one cash match for each dollar of state assistance. 2008 – 2009 Internship Qualifications Applicants must be Ohio residents or a student at an Ohio higher learning institute in good academic standing (2.5 GPA or above) enrolled in an approved math, science, or engineering curriculum in areas such as bioscience, information technology, advanced materials, power and propulsion, instruments, controls and electronics and advanced manufacturing, and who are either:
**All applicants must be U.S. Citizens and have at least a 3.0 GPA. **A total of 30% of the available internship positions can be used for these circumstances. Application and Selection Process Student applicants will be directed to apply by completing an online application at www.thirdfrontierintern.ohio.gov. By completing this application, students will allow participating companies throughout Ohio to review their resumes for potential internships. Eligible students will benefit by gaining a paid work experience in their field of study and can leverage their internship performance with their college education to gain full-time employment by the Ohio business offering the internship. THERE IS NO APPLICATION DEADLINE. INTERNSHIP POSITIONS WILL BE POSTED ACCORDING TO THE DEMANDS OF THE COMPANIES AND THEIR CLOSING DATES. Participating Companies The State will provide a business sponsoring eligible internships up to $3,000 per year for each eligible internship opportunity. The business may receive an internship grant for the same individual student for up to two years provided the student meets the eligibility requirements each year. Internship grant funds must be matched with private funds on a one-for-one cash basis, which could equate to $12,000 in earnings over two years for the student intern. Participating companies will be required to register at www.thirdfrontierintern.ohio.gov. Once registered, they will be required to post their job descriptions. From the database, company representatives will then be able to select candidates for interview or hire and then match the student to their job description. Once the match is complete, the company will notify OAI and the student of their decision and provide OAI with a copy of the offer letter. Companies must have selected candidates who provide OAI with an official transcript in order to qualify for reimbursements. Once the offer letter and transcript have been received, OAI will then approve the match for reimbursement.
