The Ohio Space Grant Consortium (OSGC) is part of the National Space Grant College and Fellowship Program funded through NASA Headquarters. The OSGC is one of 52 Consortia, one in each state, Washington, D. C., and Puerto Rico.

The Space Grant's primary emphases in Ohio are student scholarships and fellowships on the university level, and public outreach programs. Relationships among NASA Glenn Research Center (GRC) and Air Force Research Laboratories (AFRL) personnel with university faculty, students, and K-12 teachers are strongly encouraged.

The Ohio Aerospace Institute (OAI) was selected in 1989 as the host institution, along with 12 member Ohio universities, to form the Ohio Space Grant Consortium. Currently, the OSGC is composed of 17 universities, 6 community colleges, the GRC, and the AFRL.

Visit the OSGC website at www.osgc.org

Director Gary L. Slater coordinates development and implementation of the OSGC objectives, which are as follows:
  • Sustain a network of Ohio universities, colleges and community colleges with interests and capabilities in aeronautics, space, and related fields.
  • Promote a strong science, engineering, mathematics, and technology educational base from elementary through university levels.
  • Encourage cooperative programs among universities, aerospace industry, and federal, state, and local governments.
  • Support interdisciplinary training, research, and public service programs related to aerospace.
  • Recruit and train professionals, especially women and underrepresented minorities, for careers in aerospace science, engineering, mathematics and technology fields.
The strength of the OSGC network of universities, community colleges, government agencies, industry, and outreach affiliates is well-established and continues to grow. The OSGC Management Structure was designed and remains committed to using the talents and diversity of everyone within this collaborative network, and operational policies and procedures are such that all consortium members are active contributors resulting in quality OSGC programs in research, education and services. The number of quality activities, both on- and off-campus, and collaborations/partnerships that OSGC has established with NASA and government agencies, state and local government, educational institutions, and private industry continues to grow. These programs have shown results and impact by their visibility and importance to Ohio and to NASA, resulting in strategic alliances created throughout Ohio and contributing significantly to NASA's overall mission to pioneer the future in space exploration, scientific discovery, and aeronautics research.
