OAI programs afford opportunities to university faculty to expand and share their knowledge. Through NASA Summer Faculty Research Opportunities (NSFRO), university faculty members from across the United States come to Cleveland to participate in research at NASA Glenn Research Center.

NASA Summer Faculty Research Opportunities (NSFRO)

The intent of the NASA Summer Faculty Research Opportunities (NSFRO) is to provide faculty, who have limited NASA research experience, an opportunity to engage in cutting-edge research at one of the participating NASA Centers or the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL). NSFRO research experiences support America’s Civil Aeronautics and Space Program including NASA’s exploration, science, space operations, and aeronautics missions.

Each fellowship recipient will work on collaborative research projects of mutual interest to the fellow and their colleague from the NASA center or JPL.

The NASA Summer Faculty Research Opportunities Program is jointly administered by the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) and the Universities Space Research Association (USRA). At NASA Glenn Research Center, OAI co-manages this program for the Office of University Programs.

NASA John Glenn Research Center in Cleveland, OH, will offer a 2008 Summer Faculty Fellowship Program for qualified faculty in accredited US colleges and university, starting on May 27 for 10 continuous weeks.

Award Size and Duration
Fellowship awards are typically $1,200 per week for 10 weeks. Travel and relocation allowances are provided to those who must relocate.

1. Must be a United States citizen. U.S. Permanent Residents are not eligible to participate.
2. At 4-year Institutions - must be a tenured or tenure-track faculty member.
   At 2-year Institutions - must be a full-time faculty member.
3. A Ph.D. in an engineering, mathematics or science discipline applicable to NASA research and/or technology development needs is highly desirable.
4. Previous NASA Faculty Fellowship Program (NFFP) participants who have completed no more than one summer in the NFFP program since 2002 may apply.
5. Must not be a former NASA principal investigator receiving more than $300,000 of NASA funding in the past five years and/or a current FAR Research Grant recipient. (Applicants who are current/former principal investigators or co-investigators on NASA research awards must identify the amount of funding from such awards that support or have supported their part of the research.)
