Dr. Sheryl Grace
Professor Grace has been active in the aeroacoustics community for 16 years. She has twice (2002 and 2004) been invited to lecture at the von Karman Institute for Fluid Dynamics as part of the Aeroacoustics series. She was also invited to give a tutorial on computational methods in aeroacoustics at the 2004 ASME International Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition. She has made contributions to the field through her work on inverse methods for source and disturbance identification and aperture and cavity flows. In the past she has received funding from both GEAE and Boeing for work related to aircraft and engine noise. Currently, she is working to benchmark existing, and develop alternative, methods for utilizing CFD in the prediction of fan noise.

Professor Grace serves her professional community in many ways. She continually sits on review panels for NSF and NRC/AFOSR and conducts paper reviews for journals and conferences. She was a member of the ASME NCAD executive committee member (2000-2005; chair,2004) and was the division’s program chair for the IMECE in 2004. She is also active with the AIAA and is currently an Assoc. Fellow. She is a past member of the Aeroacoustics TC for which she was the meetings subcommittee chair in 2002-2005, and the technical committee’s program chair for the ASM in 2003.

As an educator, she teaches aerospace engineering focused courses such as Introduction to Airacraft Performance, Aerodynamics, and Compressible Flow and Propulsion. Professor Grace is a past faculty advisor for the student chapter of AIAA at Boston University, for which she won the National Faculty Advisor Award in 2001. During her years as advisor, the chapter won the most ``outstanding chapter" award for their region in the years 96/97, 98/99, and 01/02. In addition, she spearheaded BU’s involvement in the NASA connect middle school outreach program when they worked with Gate of Heaven Grammar School in Boston, Feb, 2001 to facilitate NASA’s filming of one of their outreach programs.

Professor Grace also works to improve recruitment and retention of women in science and engineering. She is the founder and past chair of the Women in Science and Engineering Committee at Boston University and served on the initial Council for Faculty Diversity and Inclusion at BU. As part of her participation on the CFDI she was tasked with developing BU’s Faculty Search Manual which became available at BU in the fall of 2007. She is currently the Co-PI on an NSF Grant “WIN: Women in Networks, Building Community and Gaining Voice.”
